OLED display technology has taken a giant step forward at Japan’s Ceatec 2009 show with the premiere of Mitsubishi’s giant 155″ screen, modular OLED television. - Sporting a mammoth OLED display that consists of 720 square, 4.0″ x 4.0″ square blocks, the design allows for the Oled blocks to be added or removed making the screen larger or smaller as the user requires. Due to such an ingenious design it also allows the ability for a highly flexible and seemingly unlimited variety of sizes of an OLED panel that you want. Plus due to the nature of this organic displays design they can be created easier and at a lower production cost than if it was a single large Oled panel unit. - Initially designed for use within the outdoor advertising industry, the advent of these modular, scaleable organic mini-panels can now easily morph into a variety of types, sizes, shapes of ultra-large size plus it has the added advantage of superior energy efficiency. Life expectancy is rated at approximately 20,000 hours of continuous use as per the normal rate of decay for this generation of organic panels. - Mitsubishi’s organic green, gargatuan and highy superior Oled TV concept will certainly eventually cross-over into the home theatre market at some time in the not so distant future.
