LG will be be introducing its launch for commercial sale of their latest creation utilizing OLED technology at this year’s Berlin IFA Consumer Electronics show (September 4th-9th) which initially debutted at the CES 2009 show. It’s their version of an awesome 15″ larger screen AM-OLED (active matrix) TV which is of course super-thin and very efficient as this organic technology can only offer. - Sporting a respectable 15″ screen makes this LG model the world’s largest, retail ready, organic tv in production to date beating out the very first OLED tv, the Sony XEL-1, which has the smaller 11″ OLED display. This LG design allows for the unit to fold flat allowing it to be wall-mouted plus the tuner components are seperate from the display but still incorporated into the same unit. - Specs on this LG model have not been released as yet however most likely it will have similar specs to the XEL-1, an ultra-thin screen at 1.7mm, with a 1 million:1 contrast ratio, 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and 30,000 hour shelf life as the January 2009 prototype had showcased at CES 2009. - According to VP of sales and marketing, Won Kim, Lg will have this beauty ready for retail sales starting in Korea this November while the rest of the planet must wait until sometime in 2010 to get ahold of one. Insiders at LG have also confirmed that a much larger 40″ OLED tv will be manufactured in the “not too distant future”, but watch out for Sony as they have recently stated that a much larger OLED tv is set for release sometime in 2010. -
